“There is no finer place for an Indian school than Brigham City, Utah. Faith, hope and charity will be necessary to make this uncertain venture a success. There is probably plenty of faith and hope in the community to make the project succeed, but it is charity that is really needed.”
- Dr. George A. Boyce, First Superintendent of Intermountain Indian School
“From what we saw, we would like very much to get this institution. We like the town and the country surrounding it and the weather. We feel it would be very good for our children.”
- Sam Ahkeah, chairman of the Navajo Tribal Council
“The man would like to ask Mr. Gunderson if the people of Brigham City would be as considerate of the Navajo children as they were of their own . . . I said, No, I did not think we could be as considerate of the Navajo children as we were of our own, but I felt we could learn to cultivate that feeling and learn to be of great help. He looked at me and said through the interpreter that I was a fair man and a good man and he would send his children up here. I believe that was the starting place for the hope to get some Navajo children to come to Intermountain School.”
- J.D. Gunderson, Principal of Central School
