When Schüller came across the gorgeously wild Mardi Gras-themed fabric, she knew it was perfect for some kaleidoscope- or stack'n'wacktype piecing. She selected a star pattern and interlinked the blocks to make the quilt more dynamic. For the center, Schüller traced and enlarged four of the masks from the print and recreated them using various fabrics. Threadpainting, couched on fuzzy yarns, and golden trim helped them come alive. As colorful feathers and stars belong to Mardi Gras festivities, she quilted some of them to complement the masks. Swarovski hotfix crystals add the necessary sparkle to the fiesta!
