Silk Christening Gown and Bonnet
Harvey has been very interested in Ayrshire Needlework for a long time. Exquisite christening gowns with Ayrshire Needlework were made in Scotland and the United Kingdom for mostly the nobility. The handwork is amazing and worked on very fine cotton batiste. Harvey had already made a small gown in the Ayrshire style before she set about making this silk christening gown, which was much more ambitious and took her over six months to make. Harvey reverse appliqued cameos and a scalloped hem of salmon pink, silk dupion into the ivory silk skirt and puffed sleeves before the quilting started. It was then a long task quilting the designs with a variety of embroidery threads.
