Mother Nature and Her Children

This quilt depicts whimsical images of Mother Earth nurturing her children during the changing seasons of the year. The design was inspired by the 1908 German book Etwas von den Wurzelkindern (root children) by author and illustrator Sibylle v. Olfers. By combining the pages into one picture, the quilt affords the viewer the complete story of Mother Earth nurturing her children in winter, watching them as they emerge from the ground in the spring, and returning in the fall to await another spring.
